What is a Web
Address (domain name)?
Practically speaking,
your Web Address is your
Internet identity and
your online brand. Your
customers will remember
this name and use it to
find your Web site, your
products or your
services. And since no
two parties can ever
hold the exact Web
Address simultaneously,
your Internet identity
is totally unique.
Technically, a Web
Address is an addressing
construct used for
identifying and locating
computers on the
Internet. While
computers use Internet
Protocol (IP) numbers to
locate each other on the
Internet, people find
them hard to remember.
Therefore, Web Addresses
were developed to permit
the use of easily
remembered words and
phrases to identify
Internet addresses. For
example, the Web Address
yourcompany.com
represents the The Web
Pro's Web site. When you
type yourcompany.com
into a Web browser or
send e-mail to someone
at yourcompany.com, the
Domain Name System (DNS)
translates
yourcompany.com into the
IP numbers used by the
Internet and connects
you to The Web Pros.
Do I have to get a
new Web address or
can I use one that I
already have?
You can use an existing
Web address or request a
new one.
What is Web hosting?
In order to establish
your online identity
with a Web site, you'll
need the name and number
of at least two
computers (known as
hosts or name servers),
so your customers can
find you on the
Internet. You may have
these special computers
in your organization, or
you may need to arrange
for name service with an
Internet Service
Provider or Web hosting
company. SOFTMIT
provides hosting plans
starting at $5 per
month.
How much will my hosting
provider charge me to
transfer my Web address
(domain name) to use
with my new Web site?
Most hosting providers
do not charge to
transfer a Web address.
Please note that SOFTMIT
does not charge for this
transfer at all; any
transfer charges that
you may incur would come
directly from your
current hosting
provider.
How do I know that I'll
have a reliable hosting
provider for my Web
site?
To simplify the process
of getting your Web site
up and running, we
automatically arrange
your Web site hosting
for you. We partner with
leading, reliable
hosting providers as
well.
I can't find a Web
address that works for
my Web site; lots of the
names I've tried are
taken. I don't have a
Web address to transfer
either. What should I
do?
Your Web site must have
a Web address in order
to be found on the
Internet. And you have
to have a Web address to
subscribe to our plans.
But if you want to get a
Web site now (and
register your Web
address later) you can
have The Web Pros build
your site, then download
the site to your
computer. Just remember
that your Web site won't
be on the Internet until
you have registered your
Web address. Your next
step will be to arrange
for the Web site to be
hosted by the provider
of your choice. Many
hosting providers offer
"third level domain
names" (e.g.
www.yourcompany.Softmit.com).
If you have dial up
access to the Internet
through an Internet
Service Provider (ISP)
you may already have
space for a Web site
with a third level
domain name. Check with
your existing provider
for details. You can
also get a domain name
from us.
What is a Web site
"design"?
Web site designs are
professional-quality
templates that include
complex features such as
intricate page layouts
(versus basic headers
and wallpapers), custom
interactive buttons
(versus hyperlink
navigation), unique font
and color schemes
(versus basic HTML text
styles), and the use of
dynamic button
rollovers.
Will I be able to see my
site before it gets
published to the
Internet?
Yes, we let you preview
your personalized Web
site before you publish
it. Each time we change
your content you can
preview your site to
make sure you like what
you see. And, you can
change your content
after we've published
it.
How long will it take to
build my site?
For the basic plan, we
can quickly create your
Web site within 5
business days, after you
have selected the
preview, and present it
to you online. Once you
review and give us your
feedback, the remaining
process to complete the
site and make it live
online takes an
additional 3 to 7
business days. For
advanced plans, we
provide you with a
timeline as per the
project.
What if I want to change
my site content after
it's been published?
Our Web sites are
designed to be flexible
and to grow with your
business. You can always
update your text and
graphics by simply
requesting your changes.
All changes in text are
free for first 30 days.
Thereafter, a nominal
charge applies.
What if I want to change
my Web site design after
its been published to
the Internet?
In the event you wish to
select a different
design from our gallery
after the initial
presentation of the Web
site, you will be
subject to a $200.00
Design Change fee.
How much will it cost
to make changes to my
Web site once the
warranty period expires?
Quite often if a client
simply needs a quick
change such as editing
text which will only
take a few minutes we
simply do it for free.
If the changes or
additions appear to be
significant then we
either produce another
contract for the
development at a fixed
cost, or simply bill you
at our current hourly
rate. Currently our
rates start at $25.00
per hour for design and
$50.00 per hour for
programming.
How can I be sure my
site will be unique?
Each Web site design
gives you the structure
for your site and then
you can add unique
elements according to
your needs. You can
include your company
name, logo, artwork,
photos, personalized
text, button headers
etc. In addition, our
library of designs is
always growing.
